Top 5 Tips for Applying Clear and Transparent Product Labels

Applying clear and transparent product labels can seem daunting. Just think about that time you applied a protective foil to your phone screen and the entire world of dust seemed to get trapped underneath it. You do not want that to happen with your product. And it does not have to. With these top 5 tips, you will be applying clear labels like a pro:

1. Clean the surface of the product thoroughly

When it comes to applying clear and transparent product labels, it’s important to make sure the surface of the product is clean. If there are any dirt or dust particles on the surface, they will show up in the final product label as they will get caught underneath the adhesive and form bumps. Avoid this by cleaning the surface with an alcohol-based cleanser and a micro-fibre cloth.

2. Peel the backing off of the label and place it in the desired position

Once the surface is clean, you can start peeling the backing off of the label. Be careful not to touch the adhesive side of the label. Clear labels are notorious for showing fingerprints. Once the backing is off, you can place the label in the desired position on the product. Do not apply pressure just yet. This will give you the chance to reposition your label.

3. Apply pressure to the label until it sticks completely

Once you are happy with the position, start applying pressure from the centre. Most labels come with a pressure-sensitive adhesive which is activated once you press down on them. When you start from the centre, it allows you to stay in control and smooth out any imperfections as you go. Continue that until your custom label sticks perfectly.

4. If air bubbles form, use a credit card to smooth them

Air bubbles can form when too much air gets caught underneath the adhesive. This usually happens when you apply labels too quickly. Should this happen, you can simply a credit card to smooth them out. Push out any air bubbles towards the edge of your labels. Just make sure you don’t apply too much pressure, or you could end up damaging the label.

5. Let the label sit for 24 hours

Now it is time to let the adhesive bond. While your labels will stick immediately, giving the glue time to settle will improve the overall adhesion. This is especially essential when you are using labels for jars that will be exposed to water or even the weather. Giving them extra time to really bond with the surface will work out in your favour.

And that is all you need to know about applying your clear and transparent product labels like a pro. Just remember to take your time, be precise and give the adhesive time to bond. If you do all of that, then you will have perfect labels every single time. Do you have more tips? Let us know in the comments below.
