The Objectives of Education

An educational objective is the goal that is to be achieved by students at a certain point in time. The objectives of education have many purposes, such as guiding planning, teaching, and evaluation. They are often accompanied by a criterion, which is an outcome or a condition. For example, an objective can be to develop students’ knowledge of the five stages of mitosis. However, it doesn’t necessarily need to involve a criterion.

It’s a common practice to have objectives for your teaching activities. Having these goals allows you to better understand how your students learn, which can lead to improved teaching decisions. This process, however, requires some creativity on your part. If you choose the path of least resistance, you may end up with unhelpful goals, which will not help your teaching-learning process. Another problem with objectives is that if they are used improperly, they can have trivial outcomes.
